As a result of members responses to a recent poll, the following amendments will be made to the way Misty Air operates. The 'New member handbook will be amended in due course

1. INDIVIDUAL FLIGHTS

Individual Flights can still be made on or offline as preferred by individual members. However, with immediate effect the preferred platform for online flights will be VATSIM (http://www.vatsim.net/), and members are urged to become members of this network and especially the Anchorage ARTCC (http://www.vzanartcc.net/).

Flights using IVAO or any other platform , will continue to be acceptable.

2. MULTIPLAYER EVENTS

We will continue to organise multiplayer events on an irregular basis, but in general, future events will be organised using the ‘Gamespy’ multiplayer servers accessible through the FSX interface, and will not have a need for interaction with any ATC.

Login details will be notified to members prior to each event.

I realise that this will bar FS9 users from these sessions, but as our sole FS9 user also prefers to fly all his flights offline, this shouldn’t cause a problem, unless we get an influx of new FS9 users.

For those who prefer ATC interaction, events using the VATSIM (or IVAO) network can also be organised from time to time if requested.

3. VOICE SOFTWARE

For some time, we have been paying for the use of Ventrilo Voice software, but due to lack of use, it has been decided to drop the use of this software with immediate effect.

In future we will make use of free Teamspeak servers, which while not as good or as secure as the Ventrilo server, will be adequate for our needs for the time being.

Log in details and passwords will be notified in due course.

4 FLIGHT REPORTS AND VERIFICATION

In the near future, we will be changing the guidelines to require that ALL flights whether flown on or offline, alone or in multiplayer sessions, must be ‘verified’ using the add-on programme XACARS (http://www.xacars.net/index.php?about).

This is a tiny, very easy to use programme, which runs in the background of any version of FS, collecting information about the flight, and has the ability to automatically file a pirep report when requested to do so, with only a minimum of effort.

I believe that the use of this software will be found to be easier and more reliable than similar software used in the past.

Nick, our webmaster, is currently in the process of incorporating the facility for automatic pirep reporting using the programme into the website, and when completed, the ability for members to make manual pirep reports will be withdrawn.

I recommend that members download, install and start using the programme now to see how it works, although until Nick works his magic, the need for pireps to be submitted manually will remain.
